The Rules for Rent Allowances are hereby amended by the
addition of the following supplementary rules:-
1.
With effect from the 1st January, 1917, and for the period of
the war, married officers who come under the Rent Allowance Scheme may draw a special allowance during the absence from the Colony of their wives and families, provided that such absence covers a consecutive period of not less than two months.
2.
The maximum allowance is: in Class I, $100: in Class II, $75: in Class III, $50. The amount of the allowance to be granted in each individual case is in the discretion of the Governor.
3.
Applications for a special allowance should be made through the Head of Department to the Colonial Secretary, and should contain particulars
of the expense incurred in maintaining the applicant's family.
4. An officer may not draw a rent allowance and a special allowance simultaneously.
